Hosted by Paul Miller (DWG’s CEO and Founder) and Shimrit Janes (Director of Knowledge), Digital Nations Group Hangouts are a virtual hangout, featuring topics drawn from this year's DNG Focus Areas and what they mean for the digital workplace.

About this DNG Hangout

There are many benefits (and challenges) to distributed working, where members of a team and organisation aren’t physically co-located. And much has been – and is being – written about how to make this way of working effective. But what are some of the larger-scale impacts a longer-term shift to distributed work could engender? What could it mean for wellbeing, for cultures, for local communities? What are the potential socio-economic impacts? The potential environmental impacts?

Against a backdrop of questions such as these, organizations are starting to turn their thoughts to ‘what comes next’ as we take tentative steps into a new phase of the current global COVID-19 pandemic, and particularly whether large-scale remote working is both desirable and sustainable. And so, for our second Digital Nations Group Hangout of 2020, we’ll be gathering online to discuss:

What social and economic impacts can we expect from a large-scale shift to distributed working?

DWG's Paul Miller (CEO and Founder) and Shimrit Janes (Director of Knowledge) will be joined by Sabina Guerrero (Director at RMO and Flexible Working expert) and Dr L Vargas (University of Leicester Digital Fellow and Digital Dragon Wrangler) to explore some of the key questions related to large-scale distributed working, before opening up the virtual floor for people to share their own ideas, experiences and questions.

There are no wrong answers in our Digital Nations Group Hangouts, so join us to help think through and shape the future of the digital workplace.

This Hangout will be available to non-members too, keeping our confidential setting while expanding the diversity of voices joining us.

About the Digital Nations Group

Digital Nations Group explores concepts and trends of the “digital nation”, as well as stories of technology being used for social impact.

Digital Nations Group (DNG) is an opportunity to step out of the day-to-day and think big about our wider world. Because it is changing – and changing rapidly. Digitally, socially, physically, economically. And as our public sphere becomes ever more digitally integrated – through smart cities, AI, digital citizenship, new economies, and more – the opportunities for the digital workplace just expand and grow.
